Internal Regulations

Article 1 - Object

These regulations establish the rules of operation, safety and conduct to be followed by all students, coaches and employees of the Caparica Surf Club, located at Praia da Bela Vista, Costa da Caparica.

 

Article 2 - Definitions

For the purposes of these regulations, the following definitions apply:

 

  1. Surf Lesson - A session of technical and practical surf instruction led by an accredited coach.

  2. Student - Any individual enrolled at the school to attend surf lessons.

  3. Coach - A certified professional with the Professional Sports Coaching Title (TPTD), responsible for teaching and student safety.

  4. Surf equipment - Equipment provided by the school, including boards, wetsuits, licences and leashes.

 

Article 3 - Enrolment and Participation

 

  1. Lessons must be booked 24 hours in advance.

  2. All lessons include a surfboard, wetsuit and leash.

  3. To attend lessons, the student must fill in an enrolment form and accept the terms of these regulations.

  4. Underage students must present authorisation signed by their legal guardian.

  5. A booking fee of half the price of the booked lesson is charged in order to guarantee payment to the instructor.

  6. Failure to turn up without 24 hours' notice will result in forfeiture of the booking fee.

  7. Lessons can only be refunded in the event of serious injury.

  8. Lessons may be cancelled due to lack of waves or dangerous conditions. Lessons will be rescheduled or refunded.

  9. After the end of each lesson, payment must be made for the remainder of the lesson.

  10. Payment for lessons can be made by cash, bank transfer, MB Way, PayPal or bank card.

Article 4 - Timetable and attendance

 

  1. Classes take place daily between 8am and 7pm, and may be adjusted according to weather conditions and the tide.

  2. Each class will have a maximum of 5 students per coach and a duration of 2 hours.

  3. Failure to attend without 24 hours' notice will result in forfeiture of the booking fee.

 

Article 5 - Safety Conditions

 

  1. Lessons will only be held if the sea conditions are suitable, guaranteeing the safety of the participants.

  2. All students and instructors must wear identification licences provided by the school.

  3. The school will provide a first aid kit available at all sessions.

  4. In the event of an emergency, the coach in charge will call the emergency services.

  5. A sign will be put up indicating the surfing area.

  6. Whenever lessons are taking place, two flags with the school's identification will be placed to signal the area of the corridor corresponding to the school.

 

Article 6 - Use of Equipment

 

  1. The equipment provided by the school must be used with care and returned in good condition.

  2. If the equipment is intentionally or negligently damaged, the student may be held financially responsible.

  3. The use of the leash is compulsory during the lesson for the safety of the student and the other practitioners..

Article 7 - Student Rights

Students have the right to:

  1. Receive qualified instruction from certified coaches.

  2. To use equipment appropriate to their level of learning.

  3. Be informed of the weather and sea conditions before the lesson.

  4. Report any situation that jeopardises their safety or well-being.

  5. All students are insured against personal accidents and civil liability.

 

Article 8 - Students' Duties

Students must:

  1. Comply with the coaches' instructions during lessons.

  2. Respect other students and coaches, promoting a safe and friendly environment.

  3. Inform you in advance of any health condition that could jeopardise surfing.

  4. Turn up for lessons on time.

 

Article 9 - Instructors' rights

Instructors have the right to:

  1. To work in appropriate safety conditions.

  2. Receive the material they need to teach their classes.

  3. Have pedagogical autonomy within the standards set by the school.

  4. Be respected by students and other school staff.

  5. Receive remuneration as agreed in advance with the school.

Article 10 - Instructors' duties

Instructors must:

  1. Ensure the safety of students during lessons.

  2. Follow the school's methodology, prioritising safety and creating positive experiences for students.

  3. Look after the material provided by the school.

  4. Be aware of the weather and sea conditions, adapting lessons as necessary.

  5. Maintain a respectful atmosphere and encourage team spirit among the students.

 

Article 11 - Conditions for Rental of Equipment

 

  1. The customer must know how to swim and have a minimum of surfing experience. 

  2. The customer must fill in the hire form, make the payment and leave a photo ID as a guarantee.

  3. The customer must fill in and sign a term of responsibility and accept the conditions.

  4. The customer must check the condition of the equipment before use, and is responsible for any damage incurred during the hire period.

  5. Rented equipment must be returned within the established time limit, under penalty of paying additional fees in accordance with the price list.

  6. The school reserves the right to refuse hire in the event of adverse sea conditions or if it identifies that the client does not have sufficient experience to use the equipment safely.

  7. The school cannot be held responsible for any accidents that may occur while using the hired equipment.

Article 12 - Penalties

 

  1. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in the student being suspended or expelled from school.

  2. The school reserves the right to refuse participation to any student who jeopardises the safety of the class or the other students.

 

Article 13 - Cases not covered

Any situations not covered by these regulations will be resolved by the school management, in accordance with the rules of the Portuguese Surfing Federation.

 

Article 14 - Entry into Force

These regulations come into force on the date of their publication and apply to all those enrolled at the surf school.
